Jeep tour to Azat gorge – “Symphony of Stone” – Garni – Geghard

Visit to Symphony of Stones.

Near Garni temple there is one of the most well-known and beautiful natural monuments of Armenia, Symphony of Stones, which was formed as a result of lava flows. With special jeeps you will have tour to that gorge to see that natural wonder closer. The monument consists of huge paradoxically symmetric hexagon and pentagon basalt columns (nearly 50 meters high). These stones hanging against the gravity resemble an organ, which explains why it is also referred to as “Basalt Organ Pipes”. The river of Azat flows through the gorge, thus peppering the mesmerizing beauty of stones with burble. “Symphony of Stones” is a natural monument and protected by law. This is one of the must-see places of Armenia.

Drive to the only remaining pagan temple in Armenia devoted to the God of Sun – Myrth, in Garni, built in 77 AD by King Trdat. Photo stop at Charentc Arc. Drive to the unique carved temple St. Geghard (12th -13th cc.), the name of which means “holy spear” in honor of the long-preserved spear, the same spear that pierced the body of crucified Christ. It is now exhibited in the museum of Etchmiadzin Cathedral. Geghard Monastery is included in the UNESCO World Heritage list (2000).
