Echmiadzin – Amberd fortress – Armenian Alphabet monument

Visit to Echmiadzin – the spiritual center of Armenia, the Armenian Vatican. Echmiadzin translates literally “the place where the Only Begotten Son of God descended. According to tradition, St. Gregory the illuminator saw a vision of the Only Begotten descended from heaven and with a golden hammer stroke the ground where the Cathedral was to be located.

We will take our way to the North to the highest mountain of Armenia Aragats (4090 m) to visit Amberd Fortress, a midcentury fort-city built during the X century. We will enjoy the landscape surrounding the fortress and alpine flowers on the wings of Aragats. Then we will visit Saghmosavank Monastery located in village Saghmosavan at the top of the precipitous gorge carved by the Kasagh river and built at the beginning of the XIII by Prince Vache Vachutian.
